The Checkmate Team returns....

OK, it's going to be a challenge, and we don't know yet what sailing we'll be doing in 2012, but buying a boat is a good start!

Our recent purchase is a 1985 MG HS30, you can see some photos of her on our website HERE.

Hoping to see you on the water later in 2012!

10-10-10... what another wedding?

With a month's notice to guests, Alasdair Green and Sue Ogg got married on the 10th October.

The bridal festivities included Groom v. Bride dinghy match racing, which was won fair and square by Sue!

PUCA

PUCA the Dragon has been tucked up for the winter and 6 months rest.   Sadly finances have dictated this.... let's hope things improve for us all in 2011!

Checkmate Wedding No.1 - George & Chloe

2010 saw the first (as far as we know!) Checkmate team wedding when long time team member George Rice married Chloe Bartle on the 19th August.

George and Chloe met when they both raced on the victorious J/109 'Sail4Cancer' at the Saab Cruiser Nationals in Howth in 2008.   Maybe winning that event was a good omen for their relationship!

The team wish them both many years of happiness both on and off the water.

Here is the only picture of PUCA that the webmistress has managed to glean ;-)   International Dragon sail no. 162

Mid-life crisis?

We must finally have reached middle age! Having spent a number of years campaigning boats requiring lots of crew we have decided to simplify life and sail something that only requires 3 – a Dragon. Based out of the Royal St George Yacht Club, we don’t have anything serious planned for 2010 just some relaxing club sailing in Dublin Bay, which should allow us to catch up with some of our many friends in Ireland, both on and off the water.

Christmas 2009

After several discussions and changes of mind the J/109 was sold this autumn, and we hope her new owner has a lot of fun with her.

We are now considering what direction to go in, while taking into account family commitments etc., so are currently 'between boats'.

In the meantime we wish all our friends and competitors a happy 2010, and look forward to seeing you on the water again soon.
